ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Today, the tradition of crowning Mr. Tennessee continues on under the direction
of Mr. Dwight N. Pope. Pope attended Tennessee State University and transitioned
from a student to an employed as TSU cheerleading coach. Pope has an abundance
of experience that is not limited to the coordination of male competitions and
female beauty pageants. He is an experienced runway model for several modeling
agencies including The Bizon Model and Talent Management Agency, runway trainer
and serves as consultant and advisor to university/fraternities kings and
queens. As CEO/Founder of Diavontti, The Agency, The
Production, The School and a very vibrant fashion show producer, Mr. Pope will
share his fashion phenomena with the city of Nashville and surrounding Cities.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The Mr. Tennessee Competition serves as a platform for Tennessee men, ages
18-27, to accomplish their goals of scholastic and entrepreneurial endeavors.
Participation in the Competition provides opportunities for personal and
professional growth. The title sponsors of the 2007 Mr. Tennessee Competition
were the Nashville Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants,
Miss. Ellaneous Public Relations, M. Miller Designs, Kings Konnection, Diavontti
Productions, Tri-Stage Networks, and Coca-Cola Community Connections.
MISSION
Kings Konnection develops and promotes leadership among men in the community.
This annual competition will provide scholarship opportunities that allow the
delegates to pursue and achieve their educational, career and personal goals.
The organization will help develop men who are strong, empowered, educated and
who will serve as positive role models for other males.
SCHOLARSHIP
Kings Konnection celebrates scholastic achievement and believes that education
is the key to lifelong success. Kings Konnection promotes education and
leadership through scholarship and trophy to the winner of the competition and
trophies to the 1st and 2nd runner up.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Mr. Tennessee competition is a community driven organization and is
committed to addressing health and education, two leading social issues in the
community. The winner of the official "Mr. Tennessee" competition will use his
civic platform to promote awareness of these issues during his reign.
2007-2008 Mr. Tennessee
D'Errico Wylie
D'Errico Wylie took his first walk as Mr. Tennessee 2007 on the Tennessee State
University's Humanities Building stage, June 3, 2007. His walk along the stage
was the first of many steps to a journey across the state of Tennessee. During
his reign as Mr. Tennessee, Wylie promoted his platform, "Empowering Youth
Through Exposure" . Wylie, a 24 year old native of Clarksville, TN, is currently
pursuing his doctorate in Psychology from Tennessee State University with
aspirations of owning a private practice as an adolescent psychologist. Wylie
also completed his Bachelor and Master's degrees in Psychology from Tennessee
State University. Along with a crown and a trophy, Wylie was also awarded a
$2,000 scholarship to continue his education and assist him in his
entrepreneurial endeavors.
